Ask the coach: Got gym gear, now I want the perfect body

Question

I have got all the latest gym gear, now all I want is to get the perfect body to fit it. Last year I tried it on my own with little success, this year I'd like to work with a qualified fitness professional. What are the key things I should look for?

Answer

I admire your idea to work with a professional. When our car breaks down we bring it to a mechanic but when it is our body, we try to fix it ourselves.

In order to fix yourself, you need to do and look for the following: Write a list of the goals you are looking to achieve. Lose weight, gain muscle, increase flexibility -- when you know what you are looking for it will narrow down your search for a coach.

Organise a meeting with a prospective trainer to create a rapport and see if you make a good fit. Training together will be a relationship so you need to make sure you get on.

Clarify the investment costs before you commence training.

A true professional fitness coach should be his own walking business card. Ask to see their qualifications and more importantly when was there most recent course on health.
