Ask the Coach: Healthy Protein Snack

Question

You mentioned a home-made protein bar to bring with me on flights to fill in the gaps in between meals. What are the ingredients that I need and how do I make it?

Answer

I won’t claim to be the next Gordon Ramsay or Delia Smith but in the nature of my job I have got to try and come up with solutions to my client’s problems. Homemade protein bars were designed as a solution to fill in the gaps of my clients when my client’s are stuck in between meals or as a least worst choice. They contain foods from the three large macro-nutrients known as protein, fats and carbohydrates. You don’t need to be a gourmet chef to make them and my young nephews have also enjoyed them so you might use them as a nutritious treat for children rather than them eating candy and soft drinks. It goes without saying that if you have a food allergy to nuts, unfortunately this is not the snack for you.

1/2 cup Pecans - ground
1/2 cup walnuts - ground
1/3 cup Linseeds - ground
1/3 cùp nut butter spread (just once it's a different flavour to the other two nuts)
4-6 eggs
touch of salt
Dried Cranberries or blue berries or a 1/3 cup or Honey or spoon
6 scoops of protein Powder (casein protein powder is preferred, but Whey Protein Powder will do)

Mix in a bowl, place on a olive oil coated baking tray and bake for 15-20 on 175 degrees.

Voila, your snack is served!
